On Saturday, September 17th, volunteers from Keystone Clearwater Solution and American Water participated in an AmerICANs in Action Event in support of the Pennsylvania Resources Council (“PRC”) household chemicals collection event located in Bethel Park, Pa. Volunteers assisted in the collection of household chemicals from 957 vehicles plus an additional 105 households for a total of 1,062 households served during the event. Items collected included paints, aerosol cans, automotive fluids, batteries, pesticides, household cleaners, and other household items. The event was organized by the PRC to allow for the safe and responsible collection and disposal of household chemicals. An estimated 90,000 lbs of material was collected in total during the event.
The PRC, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit environmental organization, was founded in 1939 by a group of concerned citizens in the Philadelphia area who were concerned with the proliferation of billboards and other forms of roadside blight. PRC West has hosted Household Chemical Collection Events in Western Pennsylvania since 2003 with the support of many partners and volunteers. These events have directly resulted in the safe management of over 4,500,000 lbs of household chemicals.
