Oil, gas production continues to rise

Wells in Ohio’s Utica and Marcellus shale formations produced 5.58 million barrels of oil and 221.8 billion cubic feet of natural gas in the second quarter.

Ohio’s shale wells produced a record amount of oil and natural gas in the second quarter of 2015, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Wells in Ohio’s Utica and Marcellus shale formations produced 5.58 million barrels of oil and 221.8 billion cubic feet of natural gas in the second quarter. Those results break all previous production reporting records for the last 100 years, according to ODNR.

Oil production increased more than 3.1 million barrels and natural gas production was up by 133 billion cubic feet compared to the same period last year.

Compared to the first half of 2014, the first half of this year has seen a 126 percent increase in oil production and a 160 percent increase in natural gas.
